The Education Through Music – MA Model
ETM-Massachusetts uses a unique model to create, strengthen, and sustain music programs. This model is based on a 30-year old model and procedure used by Education Through Music in NYC in a number of schools. Our team has created an adaptation of this model that is based on the unique teaching landscape, school community, and music education happening in Boston.
Work with district arts administration to determine the best way for us to do our work in their district.
- Identify schools with no music programs
- Identify music education access gaps and other general
inequities - Develop a plan to best work with the district
Partner with principals to build a new music program at their school
- Identify with principal what type of music program /
teacher will be a best fit for their school community - Develop a plan to implement a sustainable program
- Work with principal to hire an ETM-MA music teacher for
their school from a list of applicants we curate

standards and ETM-MA core music education values - Initial professional development for music teacher

teacher and academic teachers to support learning in
other areas - Prepare music teacher for state licensure and other
credentialing required by district union - Provide year-round in classroom 1-1 support for music
teacher through coaching and observations

the partner school - ETM-MA stays on as a school partner to provide ongoing
additional support in a smaller role
